Identify the meter
Match the serial number and register labels to the correct account.
Your supplier uses meter readings to calculate consumption and reduce estimated billing. Record the displayed value, meter serial number and date; a clear photo can also help if the meter has several registers.
Smart meters often submit readings automatically. If you are unsure where to send a reading or believe a bill is estimated, contact your supplier or Energy Geeks account adviser using the details on your correspondence.

Business meter support
The right register, serial number and reading date help suppliers use actual consumption instead of relying on estimates.
Electricity meters may show one register or separate day, night and weekend values. Record each labelled register exactly as displayed, normally excluding digits after a decimal point, and check the meter serial number against the bill.
Half-hourly and many smart or AMR meters send data automatically, but communications can fail. If a bill is estimated, ask the supplier which register or interval data is missing before repeatedly submitting the same value.
Gas meters record volume rather than billed kWh. Metric meters usually display cubic metres and older imperial meters may display cubic feet; the supplier applies the appropriate conversion when producing the bill.
Record the main digits requested by the supplier and keep a clear photograph showing the reading and serial number. Dial meters should be read in the direction and format specified by the supplier rather than guessed.
A reading can be rejected if it is inconsistent with the previous value, linked to the wrong meter or submitted outside the supplier's expected format. Date, time, site, serial number and photographs provide a useful audit trail.
Readings normally need to be submitted through the current supplier's portal, telephone or account process. Energy Geeks can help an account-management customer understand the issue, but does not replace the supplier's official submission route.
Questions and answers
Include the reading, date, meter serial number, account or site reference and a clear photograph where possible.
Many smart meters submit automatically, but communications can fail. Check the bill or ask the supplier if usage is still being estimated.
Use the current supplier's official portal, app, telephone service or other stated route. Keep confirmation and a photograph for your records.
Check the supplier's requirements. Regular readings are useful where data is not transmitted automatically and can help identify estimated billing sooner.
Communications, registration or data-quality issues can prevent readings reaching the supplier. Ask which period or register is missing.
